My Journey

I ate whatever I liked, until I couldn’t

I ate whatever I liked, until I couldn’t

I used to be one of those annoying people who could eat whatever and still stay slim. No gym needed. No meal plans. Just vibes and fast metabolism. That was me all the way into my 40s. Always felt good, never really thought twice about what I ate.

Then things started to shift. Slowly at first. Nothing dramatic. Just little changes here and there. But before I knew it, I had gone from lean and healthy to soft and snacky.

And honestly, I didn’t even realize it was happening. It snuck up on me like a ninja with a sandwich. So lemme tell you how I accidentally got unhealthy while sitting at my desk, eating cereal by the kilo, and pretending I was still in my twenties.

Living That Mac Life

I work on my Mac all day. Web dev, content, online stuff, it’s what I do and I love it. But once I really got into the groove, I kinda just stopped moving.

I’d sit down in the morning with my coffee, blink, and it’d be 4 PM. I barely stood up. My chair basically became an extension of my body. Even my smart watch gave up trying to get me to move. It was like, “ Bro. I tried.” At first, I thought it was fine. I was being productive. Crushing it, right? But what I didn’t realize was that my body was slowly turning into wallpaper.

Exercise? What’s That

I used to get out for walks, and go to the gym here and there. But somewhere along the way, that all just stopped. I kept telling myself I’d get back to it soon. You know the drill. Next week. When I’m not so busy. After I finish this project. Lies. All of it. I was burning zero calories and eating like I was running marathons. My step count? Probably somewhere between nonexistent and laughable.

My Wife Is a Saint but Also an Enabler (Love You, Babe)

Now, my wife is amazing. Supportive, kind, always looking out for me. She’d bring me food while I worked so I didn’t have to stop and make something. Total lifesaver.

But she also fed me like I was training for a sandwich eating competition. I’m talkin’ big beautiful carb loaded meals. Toast, sandwiches, cereal, biscuits. The kind of stuff you can eat with one hand while clicking with the other.

And lemme be honest. I wasn’t exactly fighting it. I was living the dream. Food delivered to my desk like I was some kind of tech lord. Except instead of building an empire, I was building a belly.

The Daily Menu of Doom

Wanna know what I was eating every single day? Brace yourself.

  • A full liter of milk. Yes. Daily.
  • A whole pack of cereal. Not over a week. In one day.
  • Chocolate. Not a treat. A lifestyle.
  • Sandwiches made from an entire loaf of bread
  • Random snacks and sugary stuff whenever I felt a tiny bit tired

I was basically running on high speed sugar and carbs 24/7. At the time, I thought I was just fueling my brain. But in reality, I was feeding my waistline.

And you know what the worst part is? I knew chocolate was my weakness, and I did absolutely nothing about it. Zero self control. One square of chocolate turned into the whole bar. Sometimes two. Who’s counting

So What’s the Big Deal With Carbs Anyway

Look, carbs aren’t evil. Your body needs them. But when you’re living on milk, cereal, bread, chocolate, and more bread, you’re setting yourself up for disaster. All those simple carbs? They spike your blood sugar like crazy. You get a quick burst of energy, then crash. So you reach for more food. Then crash again. And repeat. It was like being stuck on a sugar rollercoaster with no seatbelt.

And sugar? Don’t even get me started.

I treat sugar the same way I’d treat something like cocaine. Sounds dramatic for real, but it’s addictive, sneaky, and straight up poison to the body.

Once it gets its hooks in, you’re stuck chasing that high. One bite turns into ten. One biscuit becomes a pack. And your brain just keeps screaming for more.

It messes with your mood, drains your energy, jacks up your insulin, and quietly does damage while you’re thinking, “ Eh, it’s just a little treat.” Nope. That stuff wrecks your system. I had to learn that the hard way.

Here’s what started happening to me

  • Constant brain fog. I’d open a new browser tab and immediately forget why
  • Serious energy crashes. 3 PM felt like I’d just run a marathon… but I hadn’t moved all day
  • Cravings non stop. I could eat and still feel hungry
  • Weight gain. It crept up on me real sneaky like
  • Feeling tired and heavy all the time

Honestly, I was tired of being tired. And I missed feeling good in my own skin.

The Wake Up Call

One day, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and went, “Wait… is that me” I looked tired. Puffy. Sluggish. Not just on the outside. I felt it inside too.

My clothes didn’t fit the same. I felt slow, mentally and physically. And I realized I’d traded health for convenience. Sandwiches for energy. Chocolate for motivation. It wasn’t a good deal. I was fat!

What I Learned the Hard Way

Getting unhealthy doesn’t happen overnight. It’s not one chocolate bar or one skipped workout. It’s the tiny things you do every day that stack up until you look around and go, “What the heck happened”

I thought I was just doing what everyone else was doing. Working hard, grabbing quick snacks, living that laptop life. But I was running on junk food autopilot, and it finally caught up with me. So yeah, I had to face the music. Or the muffin, depending on the day.

What I’m Doing About It

Now I’m making some real changes that actually feel good.

  • Ditching cereal completely because let’s be honest it’s just dessert in a bowl
  • Trading chocolate for meat and fasting through those cravings
  • Walking way more even if it’s just loops around the house with a podcast on
  • Swapped milk for water because I don’t need a sugar bomb in a bottle every day
  • Eating proper food like steak, eggs and stuff that actually fuels me not just fills me up

I embraced keto, carnivore, and intermittent fasting. Sounds intense but it actually made eating way simpler and helped me feel like myself again. Simple stuff but it’s making a huge difference. Not perfect but def feeling more human again.

Getting Off That Chair for Good

Walking more turned out to be one of the simplest changes that made the biggest difference. If you’re in the same boat, glued to a desk and wondering where to start, I’ve put together some straightforward ways to move more on my exercise page.

Final Thoughts and Maybe One Last Sandwich

If you’re like me, glued to your screen, skipping workouts, and living on toast, you’re not alone. It’s super easy to fall into that trap without even realizing it. But here’s the good news. You can turn it around. One less biscuit at a time. One walk at a time. One slightly smaller sandwich at a time.

I’m not perfect. I still have lazy days. I still crave chocolate like it’s my job. But I’m figuring it out. And if I can do it, so can you. Alright, that’s enough deep talk for one day. Time to stretch my legs and maybe not eat a whole loaf of bread. Baby steps.
